Worcester, MA – Genesis Club House, Inc., a nonprofit organization serving people recovering from serious mental illness in the Worcester region, is participating in the first Clubhouse International Giving Day on June 1, 2021. This one-day virtual event is intended to raise awareness and funds for Clubhouses in their mission “to make a better world for mental health.” The public is invited to make donations of any amount to Genesis Club of Worcester through the online portal: www.clubhousegivingday.org.
Genesis Club House hopes to raise $50,000 on June 1st; the first $10,000 will be matched dollar-for-dollar by a Board of Directors Challenge Grant.
“Genesis Club is a true community and a literal lifeline for people,” states Executive Director Lisa Brennan. “During the pandemic crisis, we’ve made extra accommodations to communicate daily with our 800 members, because of the serious threat of social isolation. Whether on the phone, via zoom, or in-person at the Clubhouse, our members are able to live their mantra: We Are Not Alone.”
The Clubhouse model was founded in New York City in 1947 by people in recovery and replicated in Worcester by Genesis Club House, located at 274 Lincoln Street since 1988. Its proven theory is that individuals with mental illnesses recover better when part of a community of peers, contributing to help other members in their return to work and school.
